MIAMI -- The Mavericks were off to a flying and near-flawless start against the juggernaut Heat, but then James Jones, Mario Chalmers and Juwan Howard entered the game and everything tuned upside down.
The Mavs' 23-10 lead with 2:39 to go in the quarter got cut to 23-22 after one quarter.
The 14-2 start the Mavs got off to was erased in the blink of an eye. Dwyane Wade didn't even take a shot attempt in the first nine minutes and then closed the quarter with nine of the Heat's 12 points, and with LeBron James on the bench scoreless.
Dirk hit his first two shots and finished the quarter with eight points. The Mavs' defense was excellent through the first nine minutes until the Heat put the pedal to the metal with defense that turned into offense.
