Late surge by Blazers gives them lead

DALLAS -- Jason Kidd sat down and the Portland Trail Blazers went on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter of crucial Game 5 to lead the Dallas Mavericks, 20-15.

It's the second consecutive quarter in which Dallas has been limited to just 15 points. That's how they closed Game 4 in Portland. At least the Mavs didn't give up 35 as they did in the fourth-quarter collapse.

Dallas was looking good early, especially Tyson Chandler, who came out with a big chip on his shoulder. He had seven points and seven rebounds, but he missed 3-of-6 shot attempts.

Dirk Nowitzki had four points on 2-of-5 shooting. Wesley Matthews led the Blazers with six points.
