Jason Kidd injury update will come Sunday

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Saturday afternoon that he will provide an update of Jason Kidd's injury on Sunday, prior to the team's game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Kidd strained his right calf in the opening minutes of Friday's 116-101 win over the Utah Jazz. He left the game at the 9:47 mark of the first quarter and soon after headed to the trainer's room.

The veteran point guard has already missed four games this season with back spasms. Dallas went 4-0 without him and used a 28-9 run Friday night to run away with the game after the Jazz crept to within 82-80. Rodrigue Beaubois picked up the majority of the minutes at point guard after making his first start of the season at shooting guard in place of Delonte West, who was out with a tight right hamstring.

Beaubois produced season highs of 22 points and seven assists and set a career high with four blocks.

West and Dirk Nowitzki, who has sat out the last four games to help strengthen his sore right knee, are expected to play Sunday against the Spurs in a showdown of division rivals with matching 12-8 records.

Seven of Dallas' wins have come with either Kidd or Nowitzki out of the lineup.
