At the half: Mavs 43, Jazz 36

DALLAS -- The Mavericks could't blow out the Jazz when they had the opportunity because nobody could score other than Dirk Nowitzki -- and Jason Terry, sort of.

After Terry's bucket to start off the period for a 26-21 lead, Nowitzki then scored the next 13 in a row. Terry finally ended the one-man scoring show with a free throw at the 1:04 mark. He added a jumper, but credit Nowitzki with scoring 14 of the team's final 17 points in the quarter. He has a game-high 20.

But the 19-point quarter allowed Utah to hang around -- even though it managed just 16 points -- after the Mavs built up a 12-point margin. Paul Millsap has 10 points and Al Jefferson has nine. Rebounds are even at 21.

The second quarter was not a good one for Lamar Odom. He badly missed a wide-open 3-point attempt from the right wing and his two-minute, 23-second appearance was stopped when Millsap caught Odom out of position and scored on a jumper. Coach Rick Carlisle immediately called for Nowitzki off the bench.

Before there was a stoppage for Nowitzki to check in, Millsap scored again and Dallas called timeout.

Remember, Brandan Wright is out tonight because of a concussion sustained Friday night at New Orleans.
