Dominique Jones scores 32 in summer opener

Dominique Jones ripped the Denver Nuggets summer squad for 32 points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists as the Mavericks took their opener in Las Vegas, 88-77.

Jones, prepared to enter his third season with the Mavs and perhaps with his best shot at earning playing time, hit 12-of-25 shots and went 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Mavs first-round draft pick Jared Cunningham (hamstring) did not play. Second-round picks, forward Jae Crowder out of Marquette and center Bernard James, were both in the starting lineup. Crowder finished with nine points on 4-of-12 shooting after a hot start and five rebounds. The 6-foot-10 Bernard, the Air Force veteran who attended Florida State, had nine points on 4-of-4 shooting, eight rebounds and three blocked shots in 30 minutes.

The Mavs are back in action against the Raptors at 5 p.m Monday.
