Buzz: Shawn Marion out; Chris Kaman gutting it out

DALLAS -- Forward Shawn Marion needs to nurse his strained groin at least one more night.

Guard Dominique Jones, who is ill, will also miss Monday's game against the Sacramento Kings.

Center Chris Kaman will play again despite a left ankle that coach Rick Carlisle described as "a glowing purple."

Kaman sprained the ankle late in Thursday's win over the Suns and was expected to miss at least one game. However, he took the advice of noted ankle-sprainer Dirk Nowitzki and woke up every two hours to use a compressed ice machine to treat his ankle, dramatically reducing the swelling.

That allowed Kaman to make a major contribution in Saturday's win over the Rockets, scoring 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds in nine minutes.

"For a guy who's missed a lot of games in his career and was not expected to play in that situation, that was a lot of guts on his part," Carlisle said.

The Mavs need the 7-foot Kaman to come through for them again against powerful Sacramento center DeMarcus Cousins.
