Calderon sidelined by ankle injury

Mavericks point guard Jose Calderon left Friday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks due to a right ankle injury.

X-rays on the ankle were negative. Coach Rick Carlisle offered no further information when asked about Calderon's condition after the game.

Calderon had 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting against the Hawks before exiting the game in the third quarter. He is averaging 11.0 points and 4.9 assists per game.

If Calderon has to miss time, the Mavs have a major depth problem at point guard. Rookies Shane Larkin and Gal Mekel are serving as Calderon’s backup while Devin Harris continues to rehabilitate from offseason toe surgery. The Mavs would prefer for Monta Ellis to play solely shooting guard, but he would likely play some minutes at point guard if Calderon is inactive.
