Shawn Marion dealing with sharp foot pain

SALT LAKE CITY – The Mavericks headed home after their 4-0 road trip with a minor injury concern.

Forward Shawn Marion felt a sharp pain in his right foot in the first quarter of Tuesday’s win over the Utah Jazz. It bothered him the rest of the game, but the Mavs are optimistic that Marion won’t miss any time.

“The top part of it was hurting, causing some pain when I was running and stuff,” Marion said. “But it’ll be all right.”

Marion had 10 points and six rebounds in 33 minutes during the win.

Guard Monta Ellis took a nasty fall on his tailbone when he was fouled hard by Utah center Derrick Favors on a drive to the basket in the first quarter. The Mavs called timeout to give Ellis extra time to recover, but he stayed in the game, scoring 16 points and dishing out five assists in 38 minutes.

Ellis, the only Mav to play in every game this season, described the pain as “nothing” and left no doubt that he’d be ready to go Thursday against the San Antonio Spurs.
