FCD drops CCL rematch to UNAM Pumas 2-0

Suffice it to say, UNAM Pumas came to Frisco in CONCACAF Champions League Play looking for a little pay back. While their manager wouldn't call it revenge, Pumas certainly weren't happy with the result down in Mexico.

"It wasn’t revenge," said Pumas manager Guillermo Vasquez. "Dallas took three points from us at home, and we didn’t like it. We needed to come back and pay a visit and get the three points back. It wasn’t revenge. It was just a matter of getting those three points back." So for this 4th match in Group C play Pumas brought their best team to play.

Unfortunately it didn't go the way FC Dallas would have liked. Two pretty good teams to the pitch at Pizza Hut Park and it wasn't tilll quite late on that a fatigued FCD defense broke down and let in two late goals for Pumas.

Both Pumas goals came down the FCD left side where Jeremy Hall was filling in for the suspended Jair Benitez. Due to matching red cards from Jackson and Luis Fuentes, Hall was left uncovered defensively and was put to the test frequently by Pumas. As he is not usually a starter perhaps Hall became a bit fatigued down the stretch. Pumas sub Emilio Orrantia had both assist on crosses from the right side.

"Towards the end, I think, it just came down to fatigue," FC Dallas defender Ugo Ihemlu said after the game. "Guys’ legs got heavy and they just kept coming. They came in here with a lot to prove after losing at home. They had a lot of pressure on them and they are a quality team. When you give a team like that opportunities in the box, usually they are going to take advantage of it and that is exactly what they did. I would say those were their two best chances and they capitalized on them."

The loss dropped the defending MLS Western Conference Champions’ record to 2-1-1 in the tournament’s Group Stage. FC Dallas now sits second behind Pumas with seven points.
