Mike Modano in tonight for Red Wings

Mike Modano will be back in the lineup tonight for the Detroit Red Wings as they try to force a seventh game in their Western Conference Semifinals series with the San Jose Sharks.

Modano, who has played in just one playoff game this postseason, is getting the call from Red Wings coach Mike Babcock due to an ankle injury to Johan Franzen.

“It’s the same thing with Mo and any other player. He comes in with an opportunity,” Babcock told reporters Tuesday morning. “It’s a good opportunity for him; it’s a good opportunity for us. He can skate and he’s got to compete. The series is going, it’s racing out there.”

This will be Modano’s first game since Game 4 of the first round series against Phoenix, when he picked up an assist in 11:25 of playing time.

“The game in Phoenix went pretty well, so you just kind of wait and see,” Modano told reporters. “You do your part to kind of be prepared the best you can, but until you get out there tonight and get those first couple shifts in, hopefully you can relax after that.”

Modano could begin the game on a line with Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom.
