Stars let assistant coach Charlie Huddy go

The Dallas Stars have let assistant coach Charlie Huddy go, according to GM Joe Nieuwendyk.

The Stars GM said that would be the only change to the staff that served under former coach Marc Crawford last season, meaning associate coach Willie Desjardins, assistant coach Stu Barnes, goaltending coach Mike Valley all will stay with the team under new head coach Glen Gulutzan.

That leaves the team with an opening on the staff that Nieuwendyk and Gulutzan will need to fill. Nieuwendyk said he informed Huddy of the decision this afternoon.

Huddy, who had one year left on his contract, was hired in August 2009 and handled the Dallas defensemen.
