Stars Prospects: Campbell off to good start with new team

Here are some notes and a statistical update on Dallas Stars prospects playing junior hockey, in Europe and in college.

*G Jack Campbell (1st round/2010) got off to a good start with his new team in the OHL, stopping 54 of 57 shots in winning his first two starts with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Campbell stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 3-1 victory over Kingston on Friday and then 27 of 29 in a 3-2 win over Ottawa on Sunday.

Campbell was traded to Sault St. Marie from Windsor last week in a blockbuster deal within the Ontario Hockey League.

“Very excited to be a part of this organization and help this team try and win a championship,” Campbell said about the trade in a text message. “It’s sad to leave such an amazing city in Windsor. I've had an awesome time with my teammates there, my coaches were so good to me, and the fans were great.”

Campbell, who remains property of the Stars, is 8-3-2 on the season in the OHL, with a 2.90 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.

*F Austin Smith (5th round/2007) had two goals, both of them shorthanded and the second one was the game-winner, in Colgate’s 5-3 win over Brown on Saturday. Smith, a senior at Colgate, now has nine goals in nine games and ranks third in the nation in goal scoring at 1.00 per game.

*F Alex Guptill (3rd round/2010) had one goal and one assist as third-ranked Michigan beat sixth-ranked Western Michigan over the weekend. Guptill, a freshman at Michigan, has seven points (four goals, three assists) and a plus-seven rating in ten games this season.

*F Emil Molin (4th round/2011) had one goal and two assists in his most recent game in Swedish junior hockey. Molin now has 23 points (9 goals, 14 assists) in 13 games for Brynas IF and ranks second in the league in scoring.
