Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night. Detroit set an NHL record with their 21st straight win at home.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on the game
“The first 10 minutes was our focus tonight, with an emphasis on their game tonight. We took that penalty, and it wasn’t a discipline penalty. We fell on top of their goalie, which is a penalty. We needed a kill there and we didn’t get it. A seeing-eye single off the draw got them amped up and I thought we reacted pretty good, but we just couldn’t get one to go in. We had some chances, we just couldn’t put enough pressure or get something by them. That was the game.”
Stars forward Adam Burish
“Playing against a team like that is tough when you get down 2-0. Maybe our start, the first 10-15 minutes of the game, probably wasn’t where we wanted it. That was a point of emphasis that we had going into the game. We didn’t have that start. That team is so good that if you have to chase the game against them, 2-0 early, it just makes it difficult for yourself.”
Burish on Detroit’s streak
“Somebody was talking about their shootout wins. I think it’s harder than it was back in the 70’s because of the parity in the league. There’s no game when you can show up and think we can cruise through this and win. It doesn’t happen anymore. To win 20 in a row at home, just two losses at home, it’s freakish. You’ve got to tip your cap. I’ll tip my cap to them. That’s pretty darn good. But I would have liked to have been the team to snap it, I'll tell you that."
Stars forward Loui Eriksson
“They got two goals in the first. We have to be better in the beginning of the games. We know they are a really good team and have been playing really good at home. They got a better start and it’s tough when they are up 2-0 against you.”
Detroit coach Mike Babcock
"Obviously we're proud of the fact that our guys have been this consistent, and we found ways to win each and every night. We need the points. Any time you are in a race like we are, you need the points. Our guys did a good job again tonight. We've got to feel good about ourselves and get prepared for Nashville."
"We're thrilled this has happened for our team. It's really good for our logo, it's really good for our ownership and our team. We're just trying to get better and improve our team. I'm proud of the guys. They've worked hard. Now, let's get on with it."
