Modano gets honor, still mulling future

Mike Modano will be honored Saturday by the National Italian American Foundation with a special achievement award in sports as part of the Texas Gala at the Adolphus hotel.

"To be the first hockey player to be honored like this is cool," Modano said. "There are some great Italian athletes like [Dan] Marino, [Joe] DiMaggio and [Yogi] Berra who have been honored. Just to be in that same category or group of those guys is neat."

Modano reiterated that he hasn't made any decision on his future and that he's likely to do that in July or August.

"I want to see how the team looks then and what moves they've made and just see how I feel," Modano said.

He's still involved in a group headed by Billy Quinn to try to buy the Stars. That is in the early stages. The group toured American Airlines Center and StarCenter in Frisco (two places Modano knows well) and is going through the Stars' financial records as the process begins.
