Stars president Jeff Cogen leaving for Nashville

Jeff Cogen, who has been president of the Dallas Stars since November 2007, is leaving the team to join the Nashville Predators organization. An official announcement by Nashville is expected later this afternoon.

Cogen's contract with the Stars ran out at the end of June, but he was still with the club. There's no word if the Stars will hire an interim president or if the team will wait until a new owner is found to fill the post.

Cogen joined the Stars as vice president of marketing in 1993 after holding positions with the Detroit Red Wings and Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey. In 1999 he moved to the Southwest Sports Group, the management company of the Stars, Texas Rangers and Mesquite Rodeo. He served as CEO of the Florida Panthers from 2001 to 2003. He joined the Texas Rangers in 2003 as CEO and then became president of the team in 2004. He joined the Stars as president in 2007.

According to Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal, Cogen will be Chief Executive Officer with Nasvhille.
