The Stars killed it off, but six seconds after it expired Perry scored from close range to make it a 5-2 game. The Stars were still shorthanded at the time because Stars coach Marc Crawford failed to send a player into the penalty box, so no one was able to come out when the Ducks power play expired.

The Ducks tied the game just 28 seconds into the second period when Bobby Ryan deflected a Lubomir Visnovsky shot from the point past Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen.
The Ducks struck for two goals 53 seconds apart midway through the second to take a 3-1 lead. The first one came off the rush. Ryan scored from the right circle after taking a pass from Visnovsky at the 10:30 mark.
