Dallas Stars Prospects: Notes and Stats

It’s hardly a surprise, but on Tuesday Stars goaltending prospect Jack Campbell was named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the 2011 World Junior Championship, which gets underway in Buffalo on December 26.

Campbell, who is currently playing for the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, is one of two goaltenders on the preliminary roster.

“It’s going to be exciting to hopefully defend our gold medal for the United States and to have the tournament in Buffalo is really exciting,” Campbell told ESPNDallas.com recently. “I’m just trying to get better every day to be more prepared for the tournament.”

Campbell was a member of last year’s USA squad that won a goal medal in Saskatoon, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.54 goals against average and .923 save percentage. In the gold medal game against Canada, he came in relief early in the second period with the game tied 3-3 and stopped 32 of 34 shots as the Americans won 6-5 in overtime.

Three other Dallas prospects are on preliminary rosters for the World Juniors. Right wing Reilly Smith has been invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection camp, which will be held in Toronto starting next week. Defensemen Patrik Nemeth and John Klingberg will be attending Sweden’s camp for the World Juniors as well.

Here are some notes and the latest statistics on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and Europe.
