Friday morning tidbits

The NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft is tonight in Raleigh. All-Star captains Nicklas Lidstrom and Eric Staal will be selecting their rosters for Sunday’s game.

It will be interesting to see where Brad Richards and Loui Eriksson end up and whether they play together or against each other in the game.

The draft is 7 p.m. (Central Time) and will be carried live on Versus.

Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside are in Raleigh and will have coverage on ESPN.com. The NHL’s All-Star coverage is here.

Stars scatter for break

I was at the airport yesterday morning, catching a flight that would eventually get me to upstate New York. I ran into Stars defenseman Matt Niskanen and Jeff Woywitka, who both were heading home for the All-Star break.

Many of the players are looking forward to the time off.

“We are proud of our two guys – Richie and Loui – we want to see them do we well (in the All-Star Game),” Stars captain Brenden Morrow said after the Edmonton game the other night. “It’s a physical game. We’ve all got some bumps and bruises and five days is going to be good.”

Wathier an All Star

The AHL has announced that Texas Stars forward Francis Wathier will be play in next week’s AHL All-Star Classic in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The game is Monday night.

Wathier is replacing Texas forward Travis Morin, who will be unavailable for the game. That’s a sign that Morin, who was sent back to Texas yesterday, will probably get called back up when the Stars resume play next week.

Tom Wandell and Jamie Benn are considered doubtful for Tuesday’s game with Vancouver due to shoulder injuries.
