Here’s an update on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and Europe.
*Defenseman John Klingberg (Frolunda, Jr./Sweden) was named the playoff MVP as his junior team won the league championship in Sweden. Klingberg finished the playoffs with 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) and a plus-7 rating in seven games. Klingberg, a fifth round pick by the Stars in last year’s draft, has signed a contract to play with Jokerit in Finland’s top league next season.
*Defenseman Jace Coyle (Medicine Hat/WHL) leads all blue liners in scoring in the WHL playoffs with 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in nine games. Medicine Hat leads Red Deer 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
*Left wing Matt Fraser (Kootenay/WHL) is second in goal scoring in the WHL playoffs with 8 in 9 games. Kootenay leads Saskatoon 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
*Goaltender Jack Campbell’s Windsor Spitfires trail Saginaw 2-1 in the second round of the OHL playoffs. Campbell stopped 28 shots in a 3-0 win in the first game of the series. Campbell is 5-5 with a 3.44 goals against average and a .896 save percentage so far in the postseason.
*Forward Alex Guptill (Waterloo/USHL) will be opening the USHL playoffs this week. Waterloo is playing Indiana in the first round.
