Catching up with Severin Blindenbacher

Texas Stars defenseman Severin Blindenbacher has been up with the Dallas Stars for the past week. He hasn’t seen any action at the NHL level, but he is enjoying the experience.

“It’s very interesting,” Blindenbacher said after a recent morning skate. “I can learn a lot, watching the games, the players and the defensemen play. It’s a very good experience.”

Blindenbacher was called up last Tuesday after Dallas defenseman Mark Fistric went down with a groin injury. Blindenbacher has had his own injury issues this season, missing nine games due to a concussion suffered in a car accident.

“I’m feeling better. It’s gone now and I am feeling pretty good,” he said. “I’m excited to be playing again.”

The Swiss defenseman, signed by Dallas as a free agent in July, has played eight games with Texas, registering 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists). The adjustment from the European game to the North American game is coming along.

“I learn every day,” he said. “It’s been going good so far.”

As for the Texas Stars, he said the team is coming along as well. After a 6-6-0 start to the season, the Stars have won six of their last eight games.

“We’re improving day by day,” Blindenbacher said. “We go hard in practice and we have a very good working attitude. I think the longer the season goes the better it will go.”

  • Goalie Richard Bachman is 7-3-0 on the season. He ranks sixth in the AHL with a 1.94 goals against average and seventh in the league with a .932 save percentage.

  • Goalie Brent Krahn has been out with what is believed to be a lower leg injury. He is day-to-day.

  • F Ondrej Roman missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury.

  • 11/23: D Severin Blindenbacher recalled to Dallas (NHL) from Texas (AHL)

Idaho Steelheads

The Steelheads won all three of their games last week, sweeping a series in Victoria to improve to 9-4-5 on the season. In a 6-3 win over Victoria on Saturday, Michael Neal scored two goals and Tristan King had three assists. King also scored a goal last week, giving him 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in his first three games with the Steelheads. Idaho hosts Alaska for three games this week.
