Friday playoff race update

Don't play for a couple of nights and chances are you'll drop a bit in the standings. That's what has happened to the Dallas Stars, who are ninth place in the Western Conference heading into tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks.

A win tonight and the Stars will move back into the top eight. One point will help their cause as well. These are a big two points for the Ducks, who have won two in a row and can move ahead of the Stars with a regulation win.

If you look at points percentage (and I've added that column to the table below), the Stars are currently sixth in the conference. They've played fewer games than just about everybody else at this point and with three games in four nights the six points available are big.

Kings beat the Coyotes 1-0 last night. Kings have won four of five (4-1-0) and the Coyotes are winless in five (0-4-1). Nashville, which has been struggling lately, had a big win on the road in Vancouver.

Chicago hosts Carolina tonight and Calgary hosts Columbus, which lost at Edmonton last night and is starting to fade out of the picture.
