Nemeth assists as Sweden takes gold at World Juniors

Dallas Stars defense prospects Patrik Nemeth (2nd round/2010) and John Klingberg (5th round/2010) took home gold medals from the World Junior Championship as Sweden defeated Russia 1-0 in overtime in Calgary Thursday night.

Nemeth assisted on the game’s only goal. After losing the puck on a wrap-around attempt, Nemeth tracked the puck down in the neutral zone to force a turnover and teammate Mika Zibanejad jumped on it, droved the net and scored on a backhand at 10:09 of the extra period.

It was the second time that Nemeth had assisted on a game-winning overtime goal against Russia in the tournament. Nemeth ended up with five points (0 goals, 5 assists) in six games, tying for third in defensemen scoring in the tournament. His plus-seven rating tied for sixth best among all players at the World Juniors.

Klingberg had three assists in six games for Sweden.

Stars defense prospect Jamie Oleksiak (1st round/2011) didn’t factor in the scoring as Canada defeated Finland 4-0 to take the bronze medal at the tournament.
