Blown call ruins Galarraga's gem

Detroit right-hander Armando Galarraga, who began his big-league career with the Rangers in 2007, appeared to throw the third perfect game in a month Wednesday and the 21st in history in the Tigers' 3-0 win over Cleveland.

But with two outs in the ninth, first base umpire Jim Joyce signaled Indians rookie Jason Donald safe on an infield grounder to the right side of the infield. TV replays appeared to show that Miguel Cabrera's throw to Galarraga, who was covering first, beat Donald to the bag.

Galarraga had been aided by an incredible over-the-shoulder catch in center by Denton's Austin Jackson for the first out of the ninth. After the controversial call, Galarraga retired Trevor Crowe for the final out.
