Nippert (2-3, 5.01 ERA): He's starting again today because of injuries to Derek Holland and Rich Harden. Nippert started last week against Florida and gave up three runs in three innings. Nippert has made 22 starts in the majors and is 6-8 with a 5.81 ERA in those outings. Manager Ron Washington said Tuesday that he's comfortable with Nippert handling this spot in the rotation until Holland or Harden are ready. "There's no drama with him," Washington said. "You know what you get with him."
Maholm (4-5, 3.77 ERA): He gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings against Cleveland in his last start. But Maholm got through the first six innings without allowing a run before allowing some hits and baserunners in the seventh. Maholm has pitched at least six innings in his last seven starts, including five quality starts in that stretch. He has never faced the Rangers.
