Olney: Rangers scout Guthrie, Wigginton

ESPN's Buster Olney tweeted this today:

Heard this: As Texas prepares for the trade deadline, the Rangers recently scouted Jeremy Guthrie and Ty Wigginton of the O's...

Guthrie, a 31-year-old right-handed starter, is 3-9 with a 4.30 ERA with a struggling Baltimore team. Guthrie has a 1.19 WHIP and a .246 opponent batting average. Guthrie has pitched over 100 innings in 16 starts. He's pitched at least six innings in all but one of those outings. He has 10 quality starts this season.

And he's affordable. Guthrie is making $3 million on a one-year deal this season.

Wigginton, an infielder, is a right-handed bat. He's hitting .266 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs this season. Wigginton, 32, hits about the same against right-handed and left-handed pitchers.
