ANAHEIM, Calif. -- A baseball source confirmed the Rangers have agreed to a trade for catcher Bengie Molina. Texas is sending Chris Ray and a player to be named later. They are receiving cash back as well to make it budget neutral. The deal is pending the normal approval process.
The move gives the Rangers a right-handed hitting veteran catcher with a career. 275 batting average for the bottom of the lineup. Molina turns 36 in July and is batting .257 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 61 games (202 at-bats) for the Giants this season. He is making $4.5 million this season, so he has about $2.5 million left on his contract.
