ARLINGTON, Texas -- One big benefit to dealing for Cliff Lee today -- Justin Smoak, Blake Beavan, Josh Leuke and Matthew Lawson for Lee and Mark Lowe -- is that Lee is a Ranger for potentially five starts before the trade deadline.
The potential schedule could include Lee pitching this weekend. With Matt Harrison scheduled to throw in the fifth spot (which has been a rotating situation since injuries to Rich Harden and Derek Holland) on Saturday, that would be a natural time to insert Lee. But assuming Lee pitches this weekend (and then not in the All-Star Game, I would guess), he could end up pitching against Boston, Detroit and the Angels twice before the deadline.
But it's conceivable that he could pitch twice against the Rangers' closest competitor before the trade deadline.
