Mound Matchup: Lewis vs. Scherzer

The final game of the three-game series between the Rangers and Tigers features RHP Colby Lewis against RHP Max Scherzer.

Lewis (9-5, 3.42 ERA): He earned his ninth win of the season on Friday after allowing three runs on four hits in five innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. He's won five of his last six decisions and has gone 5-1 with a 3.16 ERA in that span. Opponents are batting just .209 against Lewis, third-best in the AL. He's ninth in strikeouts with 112. Lewis has won his last three road starts and is 4-4 with a 3.44 ERA in 10 starts away from Arlington this season. He earned the win in his last start against the Tigers, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He had 10 strikeouts and two walks in that game on April 25 in Arlington.

Scherzer (6-7, 4.74 ERA): The former first-round pick (11th overall by Arizona in 2006) allowed four runs on five hits in five innings with five walks and seven strikeouts against Cleveland in an 8-2 loss. He's had quality starts in five of his last seven starts. He's 5-2 with a 3.80 ERA in eight starts at home, a vastly better showing than the 1-5 mark and a 5.61 ERA in road starts. Earlier this season, Scherzer went seven innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a 5-4 loss to Texas.

Hitters: Vladimir Guerrero has only faced Scherzer three times, but he has two hits, including a homer and two RBIs. Michael Young (2-for-6) and Bengie Molina (2-for-5) have also had some success against Scherzer. Magglio Ordonez is 3-for-7 with two doubles and Carlos Guillen is 4-for-11 with three RBIs against Lewis.
