David Murphy, playing left field as DH Vladimir Guerrero rests, has taken the ball deep in his three at-bats against the Tigers.
Only one of his attempts cleared the fence -- a shot in the second easily cleared the center-field wall. But Murphy's ensuing popouts were also close to leaving the yard. His second at bat was caught just a few feet in front of the short right-field fence, as was his drive to the right-center alley in the sixth that was caught in front of the 365-foot sign.
The Rangers have added a run, the result of a Josh Hamilton opposite-field double and a Nelson Cruz single in the sixth. Texas leads it, 4-0, with the threat of rain looming in Detroit.
