Alex Cora is on the major league roster

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers just announced that the contract of Alex Cora has been purchased from Triple-A Oklahoma City and Joaquin Arias has been designated for assignment.

Cora was signed by the club last week and was 4-for-22 in with a homer and two RBIs in six games. He gives the club an experienced infielder to use off the bench and by getting him on the roster now, he could be in position to help the club in the playoffs.

"We wanted someone who has playoff experience, can play different positions and provide leadership," assistant general manager Thad Levine said.

The club has 10 days, starting tomorrow, to get Arias through waivers and outright, trade or release him. It will be interesting to see if he clears waivers or if this is the end of the Arias era in Texas.
