Cliff Lee shrinks magic number down to 6

It sure seems as if Cliff Lee is returning to form at the right time for the Rangers.

The lefty, facing his Mariners teammates for the first time since being traded to Texas in July, went eight innings, striking out eight and allowing six hits in the Rangers' 6-1 win Saturday.

With Oakland's loss earlier in the day, the Rangers' magic number to win the AL West is now six.

Lee was masterful in Seattle, working efficiently while walking one and allowing a home run to Franklin Gutierrez in the seventh.

The Rangers starter also benefited from ample run support for the second straight start -- courtesy of the bottom of the order. Jeff Francoeur and Bengie Molina each drove in two runs to support Lee's cause.

Nelson Cruz added two hits for the Rangers, who wrap up their Seattle series Sunday. Texas' Tommy Hunter will face Doug Fister in the finale.
