Cruz homers to break up scoreless game

Both teams got on the board in the sixth inning after five scoreless innings in Seattle.

Nelson Cruz homered in the top of the sixth inning to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Franklin Gutierrez doubled home Chone Figgins to tie it, 1-1. It was the first time all game the Mariners had more than one hit in an inning off Tommy Hunter, who has allowed four hits.

It could have been a more productive inning for the Rangers, but two of their runners were thrown out on the base paths.

Just before Cruz's home run, Vladimir Guerrero hit a ball off the wall in left but was gunned down at second by Ryan Langerhans.

Singles by Ian Kinsler and Mitch Moreland put runners on the corners, but Kinsler was thrown out on home trying to advance on Matt Treanor's grounder to second baseman Figgins.

Four hits in the inning gave the Rangers nine for the game, but Mariners starter Doug Fister has limited the damage.

The game in Minnesota has gone final, with Oakland beating the Twins, 6-2.
