Yankees threaten but don't score

NEW YORK -- Cliff Lee finally had to pitch out of trouble. No problem.

Brett Gardner led off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle and stole second. But the top of the order couldn't drive him in.

Lee recorded his 10th strikeout by getting Derek Jeter to chase a high fastball. He got out of the inning by getting Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira to ground out, stranding Gardner at third.

Lee has struck out at least 10 in each of his three starts this postseason. Hall of Famer Bob Gibson is the only other pitcher with three consecutive 10-K playoff starts.

Lee has thrown 97 pitches, so he probably has only one inning left in him before he turns it over to the Texas bullpen.
