A trio of high-level Rangers executives -- managing general partner Chuck Greenberg, club president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels -- met with Cliff Lee for a few hours in Arkansas on Monday.
This meeting comes after the Yankees' brass went to meet with the free agent pitcher the previous week in Arkansas. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported the Rangers' meeting.
My sources did not tell me whether an offer was broached, but I would assume it wasn't. This is still in the early stages and the Rangers wanted to show Lee that they are serious about retaining his services.
Lee's agent, Darek Braunecker, told our colleagues at ESPNNewYork.com that Lee has drawn interest from several clubs. The Nationals have publicly stated they would like to land Lee and other teams are also believed to have interest.
