Is Ron Washington AL manager of the year?

At 1 p.m. Dallas time today, we'll find out who wins the AL manager of the year award as handed out by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

This should be a very close contest between essentially two frontrunners: Texas' Ron Washington and Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire. Both steered teams to the playoffs. Both dealt with injuries, though to varying degrees. ESPN.com's panel of experts was asked who should win the award and they chose Washington in a close vote.

Caution: This vote, like all the BBWAA awards, was taken after the regular season and before the playoffs. If it was an award voted on after the World Series, there's little doubt in my mind that Washington wins this. He may still win it based on the 90-win season and the AL West title. But the Twins won 94 games and took the AL Central. So it should be a close vote. We'll have something posted as soon as it's announced.
