Rangers president Nolan Ryan said Tuesday, before the results were announced, that he felt Ron Washington should have been AL manager of the year. Washington, of course, finished second in the AL manager of the year voting to Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire.
"I'd be disappointed if Ron doesn't win it," Ryan said Tuesday. "What Ron helped this team accomplish this year after everything that happened out of spring training and injuries was impressive."
Ryan was pleased with how Washington motivated a young team.
"He had the team playing hard the whole season," Ryan said. "He led a young team and did a good job of getting the most out of them."
Washington led the Rangers to 90 wins and an AL West title. He then guided the Rangers to the American League pennant and into the World Series. The voting was done at the end of the regular season and does not take into account the postseason.
