LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he talked with Michael Young's agent, Dan Lozano, about Young's name appearing in reports and in the twitterverse late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
"We spoke to Dan Lozano to make sure they understood what was truth versus rumor," Daniels said. "We were asked about him and we told him that."
Daniels did not tell Lozano that the club wasn't going to trade Young but did indicate it seems unlikely.
"I don't speak in absolutes," Daniels said. "We're working to improve the club. Is that likely trading Michael Young? No, that's not likely."
The Rangers' philosophy is that they listen to any and all offers involving players. So they won't tell teams that anyone is off the market. Daniels compared the winter meetings to the August waiver wire, where "99 percent of players" are put through it.
"I'd say 99 percent get discussed about here," Daniels said.
Daniels said he wasn't surprised to read and hear all the talk about Young.
"That's a by-product of these meetings," Daniels said.
More updates from the meetings later tonight.
