Rays take Manny Ramirez out of picture

All the talk about whether Manny Ramirez would be a good fit with the Rangers will remain just talk.

Ramirez has agreed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, sources confirmed to ESPN.com. The Rangers reportedly were in the running to sign Ramirez as a part-time designated hitter.

Johnny Damon, Ramirez's former teammate in Boston, also is headed to Tampa Bay on a one-year deal. SI.com is reporting that Damon is getting $5.25 million and Ramirez $2 million.

In other player-movement news of interest to the Rangers, center fielder Vernon Wells is headed to the AL West rival Los Angeles Angels. Wells, an Arlington native, is coming over from the Toronto Blue Jays, who will get catcher Mike Napoli and outfielder Juan Rivera from the Angels.
