Former Rangers hitting coach and now Pirates manager Clint Hurdle talked to fans at Piratefest Friday night and used a slogan that Rangers fans know well from the 2010 season. Here's the beginning of an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
New Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, when asked to encapsulate his feelings about the past history of the organization he now helps lead and the vision it should have for the future, came up with a quick answer.
"It's time," he said.
Then he stopped -- the applause wouldn't allow him to continue.
Hey, Hurdle saw how the phrase worked for the Rangers, so why not apply it to the Pirates? I will say this: If Pittsburgh makes it to the World Series in 2011, I will truly believe in the slogan's magic powers. Maybe the Cowboys should adopt it for 2011 too?
Hurdle, according to the story, was at his best with the microphone in hand on Friday. He shared some stories and jokes and received a warm reception from fans.
The Rangers knew Hurdle was going to get another managerial opportunity. He's very good at what he does. Hurdle has a tough job in front of him, but I predict he'll help that young team grow and improve.
Is it time for the Pirates? I guess we'll find out.
