Lewis completed a scoreless, hitless two innings of work in his first spring start Monday afternoon against the Kansas City Royals. His lone blemish was a two-out walk to three-hole hitter Billy Butler in the top of the first. Lewis came back in the second and got three consecutive fly outs.
He threw 33 pitches, 16 for strikes.
Lefty Michael Kirkman followed in the third and would have liked a do-over. He walked lead-off hitter Pedro Feliz, gave up a single to Alcides Escobar to put runners at first and third, and then Mike Aviles tripled down the third-base line to bring in both runs. Aviles easily tagged on Melky Cabrera's fly to right for a 3-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings.
