SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers don't want to put any firm timetable on third baseman Adrian Beltre playing in a Cactus League game, but it appears that could happen within a week if he continues to make progress.
Beltre ran the bases on Wednesday morning and has been taking grounders the past few days. The trainers want to see that he can run the bases without issue a few more times and be sure he has the lateral movement he needs. Beltre continues to hit on the field and hasn't had any setbacks.
Other injury news:
* SS Elvis Andrus is in the lineup against the A's today after his back felt better. Andrus said he felt a little spasm, but it's something he's felt at times every spring training. "It was just felt weird taking ground balls," Andrus said. "I got a massage and it loosened things up and I'm fine."
* RHP Brian Barden (inflammation of right elbow) received an injection on Tuesday and will throw today to see how it feels.
* RHP Omar Beltre (back surgery) is scheduled to meet with doctors again on Thursday and if they are OK with things, Beltre would fly to Surprise Friday.
