Rangers minor league pitcher hit in head

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Round Rock Express right-hander Eric Hurley was hit in the right side of the head on the fourth pitch of the game in the bottom of the first inning of a Triple-A game at the New Orleans Zephyrs on Monday night.

Hurley, 25, never lost consciousness and was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans for further evaluation. Hurley left the field under his own power.

Hurley, a 2004 first round pick, was making his second start of the season for the Express.

Last season he was returning from shoulder surgery when he suffered a setback as he needed three surgeries to repair a broken bone in his left (nonthrowing) wrist.
