Julio Borbon goes on disabled list

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers placed center fielder Julio Borbon on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation of his left hamstring. To make room for Borbon, the Rangers moved pitcher Brandon Webb from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.

Borbon, who suffered the injury in Friday night's victory, was replaced in the starting lineup by Endy Chavez, who will bat leadoff and play center field.

Manager Ron Washington said Chavez will play against right-handers and Craig Gentry against lefties.

The Rangers now have their opening day outfielders, Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and Borbon, on the DL. When asked if he has ever seen that before Washington said, "Never."

Hamilton, who took batting practice for the second consecutive day, is expected to travel with the team to Chicago for two days before getting a CT scan on his shoulder to check on the healing. Cruz will do a rehab stint at some point next week, and Washington said he wants him to get about 20 at-bats.

Washington is hopeful Cruz can play in next weekend's series at Philadelphia.

More to come.
