ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers manager Ron Washington said he's never seen the three Opening Day starting outfielders on the disabled list at the same time.
According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last time all members of a club's Opening Day outfield were on the DL before May 15 was 2001 -- and it happened to two different teams.
The New York Mets' outfield of Benny Agbayani, Darryl Hamilton and Jay Payton and the San Diego Padres' Mike Darr, Tony Gwynn and Mark Kotsay were the last teams' to have their outfield on the DL prior to May 15.
The Rangers could get right fielder Nelson Cruz (quad) back next weekend for the series in Philadelphia, but left fielder Josh Hamilton (shoulder) could be another week or two away. Center fielder Julio Borbon (hamstring) was placed on the DL Saturday.
