ARLINGTON, Texas – The finale of the three game series between the Rangers and the White Sox concludes today (1:05 p.m. on ESPN 103.3 FM/FSSW) at Rangers Ballpark. Left-hander C.J. Wilson will start on the mound for the Rangers versus White Sox right-hander Gavin Floyd.
C.J. Wilson (4-3, 3.42 ERA): The Rangers’ ace is set for his 11th start of the season and looks to find the win column at home where he is 3-1 with a 3.72 ERA. Wilson tries to avoid back-to-back loses -- something he hasn’t done in the regular season since May 23 and May 29 of last year -- after a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies. He’s eighth in the American League with 60 strikeouts but his 24 walks are also eighth in the AL. Wilson’s only start against the White Sox was on April 27. He went six innings, gave up five hits, struck out five and gave up two earned runs in the 4-2 win at Rangers Ballpark.
Gavin Floyd (5-3, 3.88 ERA): Floyd hopes to repeat the success of his last trip to Arlington when he pitched seven innings, struck out five and posted only one earned run in the 7-5 win on April 29, 2010. Floyd will make his fourth career start against Texas -- all at Rangers Ballpark -- where he is 1-1 with a 5.74 ERA against the Rangers. His five wins in nine starts leads the White Sox this season and ties for seventh-best in the AL. Three of those wins have come on the road, where he’s only lost once in five starts with a 3.51 ERA. Floyd won his last start on May 19 against the Cleveland Indians 8-2, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings.
Hitters: The White Sox have a .268 career batting average, going a combined 11-for-41 against Wilson. Center fielder Alex Rios has the most hits on the White Sox roster against the lefty. He’s lifetime 3-for-9 with one extra-base hit. Designated hitter Adam Dunn struck out in his only at bat against Wilson. ...Josh Hamilton is 6-for-7 against Floyd with two extra-base hits and four RBI’s. Michael Young has fared 4-for-9 against Floyd with two extra-base hits and two strikeouts. The Rangers as a whole have a .342 batting average versus Floyd with a slugging percentage of .562.
