The Texas Rangers continue its four game set with the Minnesota Twins Saturday (3:10 p.m. on 103.3 ESPN/FOX) at Target Field. Game 3 will feature Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis on the mound facing the Twins fourth pitcher in the rotation, Scott Baker.
Colby Lewis (5-6, 4.37 ERA): The Twins are one of four American League teams Lewis lacks a regular season win against in his career. He is 0-3 against the Twins with a 7.03 ERA in eight games. ...Lewis was anything but spectacular in his last outing. His ERA jumped from 3.48 to 4.37 against the Detroit Tigers on Monday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Lewis gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits and in 3 1/3 innings during the 13-7 loss to the Tigers. It was just his third time in his career to surrender nine runs in a game and the four home runs allowed tied a career high. ...Lewis’ ERA on the road is a different story this season which his 2.17 ERA is the best in the AL and has two complete games in six road starts.
Scott Baker (3-4, 3.86 ERA): Baker picked up his first win in a month Monday against the Cleveland Indians, giving up four runs -- three earned – in seven innings of work on nine hits during the Twins’ 6-4 victory over the Indians. ...Baker is 0-1 at home with a 4.96 ERA while opponents have a .288 batting average this season. He hasn’t faced the Rangers since May 30, 2010 but picked up the victory pitching six innings and giving up three runs on eight hits in the 6-3 win.
Hitters: The Twins are 6-for-29 lifetime (.207 batting average) against Lewis with a .281 on-base percentage. Lewis has allowed an extra-base hit to the Twins’ Michael Cuddyer, Alexi Casilla and Matt Tolbert, but no home runs. Justin Morneau is 0-1 with two walks against Lewis…In 108 at bats against the Rangers, Baker has allowed 27 hits and stuck out 28. Nelson Cruz is 3-for-6 with two home runs, three RBI’s and three strikeouts. Josh Hamilton has a .143 batting average against Baker with two hits and six strikeouts.
