ARLINGTON, Texas -- The great Rich Rice, media relations guru for the Rangers, did some research on pitchers making starts on short rest against the Rangers.
The Rangers have faced just two pitchers on short rest since 2006. One was Mark Buehrle on July 22, 2008, in Chicago and then other are Marc Rzepczynski of Toronto on Sept. 8, 2010. Buehrle gave up one run on six hits in 7 1/3 innings in a win. Rzepczynski gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings and lost to Texas, 8-1.
Overall since 2001, seven starters have pitched on short rest against the Rangers and those pitchers are 4-2 with a 3.82 ERA and Texas is just 2-5 in those contests. The Angels have four starts in that stretch, including two by John Lackey. He was the last to make a short start in Texas, back on Sept. 30, 2005, with the Rangers out of contention.
