ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to town for a three-game set to finish off this 10-game homestand. The first game of the series features RHP Scott Feldman and RHP Jeremy Hellickson. A quick look:
Feldman (0-0, 3.94 ERA): The 28-year-old is making a spot start in place of Matt Harrison as the club decided to give Harrison some rest. ...Feldman spent half the season rehabbing from microfracture surgery on his right knee and joined the club just after the All-Star break. He started 22 games in 2010, but struggled and was moved to the bullpen for the final few months of the year. He finished with a 5.48 ERA just one season removed from a 17-win campaign and a new contract (he had a 4.08 ERA in 2009 to go along with those 17 wins). ...Feldman matched his longest relief appearance last Sunday with 4 2/3 innings pitched against the White Sox (he gave up five runs). ...Opponents are hitting .230 against him since he returned. ...He's 3-1 with a 1.73 ERA in eight games (three starts) against the Rays in his career and is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA as a starter vs. Tampa Bay.
Hellickson (11-9, 3.01 ERA): The 24-year-old righty from Des Moines, Iowa, has a 1-2 record in August despite a 2.36 ERA. ...He gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and one walk in his last start on Aug. 25 against Detroit, but got the loss in a 2-0 Tigers win. ...Since the beginning of July, Hellickson has six quality starts in eight outings. ...His ERA is 3.68 on the road and just 2.41 at home, with just one more road start this season. ...He has not faced the Rangers in his career.
Hitters: No current Rangers hitters have faced Hellickson. ...Rays hitters are batting .193 against Feldman in their careers. ...Kelly Shoppach (4-for-13, 5 Ks) and Johnny Damon (2-for-9, 5 BBs) are the only batters to face Feldman more than nine times.
