ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz strained his left hamstring rounding first base on a double in the sixth. And when he first came off the field, he thought it was serious.
"But after I got treatment and put some ice on it, it didn't feel as bad," Cruz said. "It felt more normal. Hopefully, it's not bad and I'm back soon."
Cruz will get an MRI on Monday. He strained the left hamstring twice last year (and strained his right hamstring once) and was on the disabled list all three times. But Cruz said this feels different than any of those three last year.
"It doesn't feel as bad," Cruz said. "Last year, it would still feel pretty bad even with the treatment. That's not how it felt tonight."
Maybe that's a good sign. We'll know more on Monday.
Cruz might not go on the DL with rosters expanding Thursday. But we'll see if the injury impacts the team's waiver wire situation and if there's an outfielder they could pick up. They got Jeff Francoeur on Aug. 31 last year.
