ST. LOUIS -- MLB is going to invite Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki to throw out the first pitch at one of the upcoming World Series games. The game has yet to be determined. UPDATE: It's now Game 3 on Saturday.
MLB spokesman Pat Courtney said commissioner Bud Selig didn't know Nowitzki wasn't involved and thought he should be. So the league is inviting him to throw out the first pitch at one of the games in Arlington. Game 3 is Saturday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with Game 4 slated for Sunday and Game 5, if necessary, for Monday night.
As reported on ESPNDallas.com, sources told Marc Stein that MLB had nixed the idea of having Nowitzki throw in part because of the labor dispute in the NBA. MLB denied that and has now changed course and decided to let Nowitzki pitch.
